College Credit Program

Great Hearts Online and Great Hearts Texas are partnering to offer a College Credit program at our brick-and-mortar Academies! Our program will provide Great Hearts high school scholars with an opportunity to earn college credit while completing their current Great Hearts courses. Scholars can earn college credit for select courses through a dual credit partnership with Western Texas College (WTC) or by taking AP exams at a local Great Hearts Academy.

Registration Opens: September 15th, 2025

Registration Closes: January 12th, 2026

Class Begins: January 20th, 2026

Last Day of Class:  May 6th, 2026

Courses Available for Spring 2026

Courses Available For Freshman: ($300 each)

  • US History 1301– Humane Letters
  • Latin I 

Courses Available For Sophomore: ($300 each)

  • Economics 1301 – (Economics)
  • Latin I 

Courses Available For Juniors: ($300 each)

  • English 1301 – Humane Letters
  • Philosophy 2306 – Humane Letters

Courses Available For Seniors: ($300 each)

  • English 1301/1302 – Humane Letters
  • Speech 1315 – Senior Thesis Presentation (Course Ends June 1st)

Eligibility Criteria

Scholar must have and maintain a cumulative, unweighted GPA of 3.0

Scholar must currently be passing the High School course associated with the college course (ex: 9th Grader should be passing Humane Letters to qualify for US History 1301).

All college course registration is subject to you campus College Counselor approval

How It Works

  • Scholars can opt to earn college credit for designated courses by completing the registration process online. Note: Payment is due at the time of registration.
  • Scholars will attend the course at their Great Hearts campus without any changes to the curriculum.
  • Scholars will complete 3-5 college assignments in Canvas, the online Learning Management System. Note: Work and experiences from the Great Hearts course may be used to complete these assignments, however, there may be substantial work needed outside of class for HIST 1301, SPCH 1315, and possibly ECON 1301.
  • A Great Hearts Online faculty member, approved by Western Texas College, will grade the assignments based on the rubrics and learning outcomes of the course.
  • Scholars will receive a high school letter grade based on their performance in the Great Hearts course.
  • Scholars will receive a college letter grade based on their performance on the 3-5 assignments in Canvas and completion of the Great Hearts course.

Ensuring Your Credits Transfer 

  1. Verify Accreditation: Ensure the previous institution is accredited by a recognized agency, such as a regional accrediting body.
  1. Check with the Receiving Institution: Contact the admissions or academic advising office of your desired institution to understand their specific transfer policies and requirements.
  1. Review Articulation Agreements: Look for formal agreements between your current institution and the desired one that may guarantee the transferability of certain courses.
  1. Provide Documentation: Submit official transcripts and course syllabi or descriptions to help the receiving institution evaluate your previous coursework.
