US History 1301 – Humane Letters – Freshman

In this dual credit course, students explore the political, cultural, and economic development of the United States from pre-Columbian societies through the Civil War. Designed to challenge and inspire high school freshmen, the course builds strong analytical, reading, and writing skills while earning both high school and college credit. Students will engage with primary sources, discuss key historical themes, and develop a deeper understanding of the ideas and events that shaped America’s early history.

How It Works

  • Scholars can opt to earn college credit for designated courses by completing the registration process online. Note: Payment is due at the time of registration.
  • Scholars will attend the course at their Great Hearts campus without any changes to the curriculum.
  • Scholars will complete 3-5 college assignments in Canvas, the online Learning Management System. Note: Work and experiences from the Great Hearts course may be used to complete these assignments.
  • A Great Hearts Online faculty member, approved by West Texas College, will grade the assignments based on the rubrics and learning outcomes of the course.
  • Scholars will receive a high school letter grade based on their performance in the Great Hearts course.
  • Scholars will receive a college letter grade based on their performance on the 3-5 assignments in Canvas and completion of the Great Hearts course.
