Great Hearts Online Summer School is open to all current and incoming Great Hearts students. All summer courses include daily, live video instruction M-Th, weekly tutoring opportunities, and access to our Great Hearts curriculum using the online learning platform, Canvas.
This course will begin on June 3rd and run through June 30th, during Session 1 (1 Hour) (9:30-10:30). You can view the session schedule HERE. Please note that all times are listed in Arizona Local Time.

This course is designed to strengthen foundational literacy skills for scholars completing first grade and preparing to enter second grade. Through explicit phonics instruction using the Spalding method, students will learn to recognize and apply single- and double-letter phonograms with accuracy and proper markings. Reading instruction emphasizes fluency, careful attention to print, and meaningful comprehension of connected text. Scholars will practice identifying basic parts of speech and apply this knowledge through modeled and dictated sentence work. Writing instruction focuses on forming complete sentences with correct spacing, grammar, and penmanship. Through reading, writing, and oral narration, students will build confidence in expressing their understanding clearly and develop the skills and habits needed for success in second grade language arts.
