This course offers students a thoughtful and ordered study of United States History with a particular emphasis on Texas, guiding them to understand the nation’s story as a coherent narrative shaped by ideas, principles, and human choices. Beginning with foundational philosophical questions and early colonial experiences, students examine the development of American self-government, the struggle for liberty, and the moral tensions that have marked the nation’s growth. Through close reading of primary sources, careful attention to cause and consequence, and deliberate reflection on virtue, leadership, and civic responsibility, students learn to see history not as a list of isolated events, but as a continuous dialogue between past and present. The course culminates in an examination of modern America, inviting students to consider how the principles established at the nation’s founding continue to shape Texas and the United States today.
