Course Overview
This course prepares students for the rigor of 7th-grade Pre-Algebra and 8th-grade Algebra by building on the strong
conceptual foundation of Singapore Mathematics. Students move from concrete and pictorial models toward
abstract reasoning as they master operations with positive rational numbers, then apply these skills to geometry,
ratios, percents, and eventually the full real number line, including a careful study of negative numbers. They learn to
simplify expressions, solve equations, and interpret relationships through tables, graphs, and word problems.
Throughout the year, students practice the habits of mathematical thinking by exploring definitions, forming
conjectures, and writing age-appropriate proofs that reveal the structure and properties of real numbers. Above all,
the course fosters an appreciation for the truth, beauty, and goodness found in the discipline of mathematics.
