This Fundamentals of Mathematics course strengthens students’ mastery of essential mathematical principles in preparation for the formal study of Pre-Algebra and Algebra. Drawing from the Carnegie Learning Texas Math Solution series, students review the structure and properties of the real number system, with particular attention to rational numbers, signed numbers, ratios, and algebraic reasoning. Through the study of expressions, equations, and quantitative relationships, scholars develop both computational fluency and conceptual understanding. Instruction reflects the classical mathematical tradition, emphasizing logical reasoning, precision, and proof, and guiding students to see mathematics as an ordered and intelligible system grounded in truth. Through disciplined practice and thoughtful analysis, students grow in their ability to reason abstractly, solve problems with confidence, and recognize the coherence and beauty inherent in mathematics.
