Focus on vocabulary expansion, Greek and Latin root words, phonics, spelling, and penmanship in cursive, developing writing skills from sentences to multiple paragraphs, exploring literature, participating in discussions, analyzing grammar, and studying poetry for recitation and understanding.

Course Summary:

Music Theory

Scholars will learn about music history by listening to recordings of important compositions as well as studying musical composers like Bach, Handel, Mozart, Gershwin, Tchaikovsky, and more. Scholars will learn to read and understand music through the study of musical notation, rhythm, solfege,

Music Performance

Scholars will use the music theory they have learned to perform written music either with voice or instruments such as the hand bells, piano, or recorder. Scholars even have the opportunity to write their own music with the ability to read and understand the notes on a page.

Course Summary:

Art Theory

Scholars will study the elements of art (lines, shape, form, value, texture, space, and color) through observation of the world and other classical works of art. Scholars will have the opportunity to learn from artists such as Klee and Matisse, Cezanne and Monet, and Munch.

Art Practice

Scholars will complete collaborative and individual art pieces to practice the elements of art using various mediums like watercolors, oil pastels, graphite, etc. There will also be a final cumulative project to showcase what was learned and practiced throughout the year. Remember, “if you can draw anything, you can draw everything with the use of the elements”!
