Music Theory

Scholars will learn about music history by listening to recordings of important compositions as well as studying musical composers like Bach, Handel, Mozart, Gershwin, Tchaikovsky, and more. Scholars will learn to read and understand music through the study of musical notation, rhythm, solfege.

Music Performance

Scholars will use the music theory they have learned to perform written music either with voice or instruments such as the hand bells, piano, or recorder. Scholars even have the opportunity to write their own music with the ability to read and understand the notes on a page.

Whether your family travels regularly or your child spends their day pursuing a personal passion, the Flex Program is a wonderful alternative to traditional schooling. Select your courses individually or as a full-time curriculum and school at your own pace. Families that choose the Flex Program enjoy maximum independence while still receiving the same rigorous, classical education Great Hearts is known for. Flex Program courses can be purchased via private pay or through ESA funds in Arizona, Utah, and New Hampshire. ESAs or Educational Savings Accounts are only available in certain states.   • Instruction:  Course content delivered via instructional videos and self-paced asynchronous, independent assignments and activities. Courses include faculty support with access to office hours, answers to questions, and assignment feedback and grades.
  • Independent Assignments:  Scholars complete assignments sequentially. Grades and feedback provided as assignments are submitted.
  • Exempt from: State exams, attendance sheets, and stringent schedules.
